Children with Cancer UK uses MoveData’s Enthuse to Salesforce integration. We sat with Camelia Vasilcan, Head of Database at Children with Cancer UK, to learn more about their experience and understand how the integration has helped save time and unlock new capabilities for their organisation.
Tell us about Children with Cancer UK
Around 4,200 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK. Children with Cancer UK funds life-saving research into the causes of childhood cancer to develop better and kinder treatments.
To date we have funded over 300 projects which have accelerated research breakthroughs on the causes of cancer in children and young people as well as finding better treatments.
Why do you use Enthuse and why do you need to get your Enthuse data into Salesforce?
“It is critical that Enthuse information is captured in Salesforce. Without this we would not have visibility across our supporters and all the wonderful activities they are doing with us!”
– Camelia Vasilcan, Head of Database, Children with Cancer UK
We were introduced to Enthuse as a replacement for Virgin Money Giving. As we became more familiar with the platform we were impressed with its capabilities and now use Enthuse as our primary fundraising platform.
However, Enthuse is not the only way we interact with our network of supporters and beneficiaries – in addition to fundraising we have researchers, grants, volunteers, our online store, and many other engagement pathways to manage.
To make sense of these different touch points we collate our data in Salesforce which provides a single view across all our activities. Thus it is critical that information from Enthuse is captured in Salesforce as without this we would be missing a huge chunk of our supporter “puzzle”.
What was your approach to data entry prior to using MoveData?
Before using MoveData our process was to:
- Download Excel reports from Enthuse
- Transform those reports into a more suitable file structure which would be compatible with Salesforce
- Import the transformed file into Salesforce
Thankfully we have developer staff in-house who could build and maintain the scripts responsible for transforming and importing the Excel reports. As such this process only took a couple of hours each week, but I can imagine this would be quite painful for charities who did not have their own developer capabilities.
“Salesforce was constantly out of date with our Excel-based approach”
– Camelia Vasilcan, Head of Database, Children with Cancer UK
The bigger issue for us was that this process was fundamentally manual in that it depended on staff to download reports from Enthuse in the first place. This would happen only weekly and as such our information in Salesforce was constantly lagging Enthuse by up to a week.
This impacted everyone on the team and hamstrung the effectiveness of our downstream systems and processes inside Salesforce. For obvious reasons functionality like live dashboards and marketing automation were of limited effectiveness without real time data from Enthuse flowing into them.
What outcomes did you receive by automating Enthuse into Salesforce?
“Enthuse is now fully automated and syncs into Salesforce accurately and in real time”
– Camelia Vasilcan, Head of Database, Children with Cancer UK
MoveData was able to replicate the same “output” as our previous process so there was no need to rework anything in Salesforce. Our primary benefits were:
- Real time information in Salesforce
The sync happens in real time which means information in Salesforce is no longer “out of date”. As such our dashboards, reporting, marketing automation and everything else are fully automated and always accurate. - Time savings
We save approximately 100 hours over the calendar year by using the integration. We also enjoy less quantifiable benefits such as continuity when developer staff go on leave and the fact that we no longer need to maintain and troubleshoot functionality we had developed under our previous processes. - Cost savings
By using the integration we could downgrade subscriptions used to facilitate our previous processes. MoveData is significantly more cost effective and saves us a non-trivial amount of budget each year.
Any other closing remarks?
“We would highly recommend MoveData to anyone looking to connect Enthuse and Salesforce”
– Camelia Vasilcan, Head of Database, Children with Cancer UK
MoveData were very thorough and took the time to ensure everything was set up exactly as we required. You clearly have worked with hundreds of different charities and the experience showed in making our somewhat complicated setup an absolute breeze. We would highly recommend MoveData to anyone looking to connect Enthuse and Salesforce.
